BUILT FROM A PROBLEM

Before O.G Bags, I ran a boxing equipment company called Connelly Boxing.

For six years I worked around professional boxers — helping with training, lacing gloves up and taking them off afterwards.

And the smell from some of those gloves was horrific.

I'd get home, have a shower, sit down with a cup of tea and could still smell the gloves on my hands.

I wanted to know what was causing it.

Was it the foam? The materials? Something inside the glove?

Working with my manufacturer, we kept coming back to one thing.

How the gloves were being stored.

After training, sweat-soaked gloves were getting thrown into gym bags with waterproof linings and left there.

It got me thinking — what if, instead of trapping all that damp gear inside, I could make a bag that let it breathe?

THEN CAME THE SEWING MACHINE

At the same time, I was looking for ways to make Connelly Boxing different.

One idea was to learn how to make boxing gloves myself.

So I bought an industrial sewing machine.

I quickly discovered that making a boxing glove from scratch involved a hell of a lot more than owning a sewing machine. 😂

But now I had the machine.

And that brought me back to the problem I'd already been thinking about:

Could I make something that gave wet boxing gloves somewhere to breathe?

So I started experimenting.

Different materials. Different linings. Different shapes. Different ways of creating airflow.

Eventually those experiments became the Venta — and alongside it, the bamboo charcoal deodorisers.

That was the beginning of O.G Bags.

What started with one bag for boxing gloves has grown into a range of bags built around the same simple idea:

Give damp training gear somewhere to breathe.

Today, O.G Bags are cut, sewn and finished by hand in our workshop at the Barras in Glasgow.

The bags are made upstairs.

And sold downstairs.
